Should every job listing show the salary?

Many candidates go through several rounds of interviews before they find out what a job actually pays.

The case for

  • It saves everyone's time and gives candidates a fair starting point to negotiate.

  • Open pay ranges make unequal pay, including the gender pay gap, harder to hide.

The case against

  • Companies lose flexibility to pay for exceptional candidates.

  • Ranges can be so wide they mean nothing, and can unsettle existing staff.
